About Volunteering with Meals-On-Wheels

We deliver nutritious lunches for seniors four days a week with the option to include an additional sack lunch on non-delivery days. Warm lunch delivery days are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Sack lunch delivery days are Wednesdays and Fridays.

We have two types of volunteering: driving and riding. Drivers will deliver meals independently and driver-rider teams have a runner to help run meals out to homes, expediting the process. Many volunteers, friends and couples chose to team up and volunteer together in this way!

We ask that all volunteers are at least 18 years old and are willing to submit a background check and complete fingerprints. We DO NOT require a driver’s license for non-driving volunteers who just want to tag-team routes with a driver, but naturally do for drivers.

Once you have completed your application, please come to the Senior Connection to pick-up your fingerprint and background packet!

Steps to Onboarding:

  1. New driver application
  2. Background check & fingerprinting
  3. Driver preference survey
  4. Ride-along on your desired route
  5. License photocopy
  6. All set!

Routes vary in length but typically are between 20-30 deliveries. Please arrive at the center at 10:00 AM. Routes take about 3-4 hours to complete. We currently have 3 routes to choose from; South, North and Hailey.

There are no volunteer requirements—you can work with us as little or as much as you’d like. Whether that is once a month or once a week, we are here to support a balanced lifestyle!

You are welcome to select any route on the schedule, even routes you haven’t shadowed. Although, from personal experience of being able to recognize and locate delivery addresses, it will be MUCH easier if you select shifts that you have shadowed.

You are welcome to any of our three vehicles: Ford Transit Van, Ford F-150 Double-Cab or F-150 Single-Cab. All vehicles are regularly cleaned and stocked with hand sanitizer, wipes, trash cans, and phone accessories. You are also welcome to use your own personal vehicle! Vehicles are always first come, first serve on delivery days. Most volunteers find the vehicles they like and stick to their regular preferences.

Accidents happen! Our priority is ALWAYS your personal safety. If a driving accident occurs, please determine if all individuals involved are okay, then call the local police. Then please call Anna and let her know—we’ll fill out the accident report on the clipboard together back at the Center.

Yes! When you come in to volunteer, you are welcome to help yourself to coffee, tea, juice and pastries from the donations table. You are also welcome to help yourself to a meal every day you volunteer with us. We will also be doing volunteer bonding, brunches, activities and more!
